Instructors and disrespectful schools

So recently a friend of mine decided to go to school for cosmetology. She already does hair but of course wanted to learn more as well as get her certification and maybe one day open her own salon. Isn’t that what everyone want? To do what they love, have the certification to do it and have their own business? She enrolled into The Academy Waukesha, Paul Mitchell Partner School and started soon afterwards. Alright, lets get this show on the road!

Learning how to cut, style, color, etc. you’d think that’s what you’d be doing right? Apparently that wasn’t it. When given free time to practice on their mannequins the stereo was turned up to an uncomfortable level and the music was rather vulgar for the environment that they were in. When asked to turn it down, the instructor refused to lower the volume as well as change the type of music that was playing. The instructor stated that he would not be changing something just for a single student. How much of an ass was this guy?

Not only was the music issue ignored and got worse, instead of learning how to do hair and the other curriculum; skin care, make up, barbering, aromatherapy, nail artistry, sales, and marketing, the instructor decides to teach a dance instead. Sorry, is that what the tuition is going towards? Hell if I wanted to take dance lessons I’d go to a dance instructor, NOT a cosmetologist. If I wanted to listen to music at ear bleeding volumes, I’d go elsewhere.

How many of you have to have it quiet to study? How many of you have to have music playing? If you listen to music while studying, do you have it at ear bleeding volumes? You would think music that loud is distracting to say the least. What are you going to do if you’ve got a client in that chair and the bass booms and it scares you resulting in an unwanted chunk of hair being cut? Then what are you going to do? You can’t glue that hair back on!

When it was brought to the other faculty members and even the individual in charge of The Academy Waukesha, Paul Mitchell Partner School they informed her that they were not going to change anything for her. She was told to deal with it. She was made fun of soon after the issue started and she had said something about it. Really? You’re going to make fun of a student and tell them they have to deal with it instead of assisting them? That is highly unacceptable and I cannot believe any school would do that. What happened to assisting students and helping them along their career path?

Sorry, if you want to be that much of an inconsiderate ass then that’s money you’re losing out on because that shows me that you’re only interested in the tuition money you’re getting from that student. The curriculum doesn’t state anywhere that you’ll learn to dance and listening to high level music. The learning process, “should be fun and everyone’s education should be special.” So that means they can treat a student like crap when they state they have an issue with the class? That’s acceptable?

“When you tour any Paul Mitchell School, everywhere you go you’ll experience a positive learning environment…” Really? They should include how the faculty is disrespectful to students. They even have a teacher training program. That’s awesome! Now how about adding in a courtesy course in there? “Everyone on staff at each beauty school is committed to helping you every step of the way, no matter where your dreams may take you.” Put your money where your mouth is Paul Mitchell. It says a lot when your instructors tell the student to deal with something that is bothering them and hindering their ability to learn and further their career.

Paul Mitchell school of cosmetology, are you interested in the money you’re getting paid from tuition or are you actually interested in helping students further themselves and their dreams? I hope you can clean up your act. You are turning away students when the faculty is that disrespectful and ignorant. The information on your website, pamplets, etc. is false. You aren’t all about the student. If you were, you would assist them in their learning experience like you state on your website. Instead you and your faculty are doing the opposite.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend your school to anyone that is looking to peruse a career in cosmetology. I would tell them to look elsewhere and not give your school a second thought. If you and your faculty can’t be respectful to students then why would I want to attend? I wouldn’t. Maybe your instructors need to go back and take some curtsy classes and clean up their act and learn what they are suppose to be teaching instead of what they don’t have in the planner. You’re there to teach students how to do hair, make up, facials, etc. NOT dances!

To you my friend

To my wonderful friend,

Over the past few weeks you’ve made things more bearable for me. You’ve helped me open my eyes to multiple situations and ideas. I may have been quite shocked and caught off guard but it was only because no one has said those things to me before. I greatly appreciate your honesty with me. It’s one of the things that makes me happy to call you my friend.

Not only have you helped me with advice but you’ve helped me with trying to relieve stress, unneeded stress at that. You’ve helped me see things I haven’t looked at before. You’ve had me think of things I didn’t think about before. The funny part is, my therapist agreed with you on several different occasions or aspects of the advice you’ve given me. I’m very thankful to have you as a friend.

I’ve missed being able to talk to you. I’ve missed being able to hang out with you. I know that wasn’t possible because of jealousy issues. I know that there were issues so I stayed back and tried to keep to myself. I didn’t want there to be arguments or jealous fits because I didn’t want to cause you any grief or pain. Even with me staying away it didn’t happen. I so badly want to apologize to you for that but it wasn’t in my hands, it wasn’t me that did it.

I do want to apologize for feeling needy and so talkative. I just hope you understand it’s nice to be able to talk to you again and goof off like we use to. We always had fun. We were alway silly. It was sorely missed when it wasn’t there. Sitting back talking with you and giggling about when we use to hang out always makes me smile. I mean come on, we were goofballs. We still are and I absolutely love that. I don’t have to change who I am, how I talk or how I act with you because you already know me and I don’t have to be afraid to be myself. The only thing I have to do is toughen up and stop whining. *giggles*

Thank you for being there for me when I needed it last week. Being able to lay in your arms and talk about what is going on was so awesome. I was relaxed. You listened to me talk. You gave me advice. You saw what I was going through and having to deal with. Thank you so much for just holding me and allowing me to feel safe. For a moment the world stopped, everything paused and nothing was wrong…more importantly, I wasn’t worried.

Being your friend means a lot to me. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life. Please know that I’m always  here for you. I’ve been through so much and can offer you so much advice as well as hugs. I’m here to help you however I can, you know that. I’m here no matter what. I’m here no matter the time. I’m here no matter the day. All I want is to see you happy. I hate it when you are upset or mad, hurt or angry. I just want to see you happy. If there is ever anything I can do to help achieve that, let me know. You know I will try my hardest to see you smile.

You are an awesome friend to have. You an awesome person to be around. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Those people that are saying things to hurt you are only upset because you are moving forward with your life. Don’t let them drag you back down. Don’t let them pull you back into their web of lies. It isn’t worth it. It isn’t going to benefit you at all. Look forward and not behind you. Look up and not down. All else fails, you know I’m here for you if you ever want to chat. I know trust is an issue and I completely understand because it is with me as well.

Don’t limit yourself. Don’t hold yourself back from what you could have. Don’t let your past keep you down because you just might miss your future and I would hate to see that happen. You deserve the world and more. You deserve to be happy every day. You deserve to have someone support you in every single way. You aren’t the bad guy. You’re the good guy. Good guys don’t always finish last.

~Your friend~

Just smile. Everyone needs a smile. Everyone needs a laugh. Life is to stressful to take serious all the time.
