Instructors and disrespectful schools

So recently a friend of mine decided to go to school for cosmetology. She already does hair but of course wanted to learn more as well as get her certification and maybe one day open her own salon. Isn’t that what everyone want? To do what they love, have the certification to do it and have their own business? She enrolled into The Academy Waukesha, Paul Mitchell Partner School and started soon afterwards. Alright, lets get this show on the road!

Learning how to cut, style, color, etc. you’d think that’s what you’d be doing right? Apparently that wasn’t it. When given free time to practice on their mannequins the stereo was turned up to an uncomfortable level and the music was rather vulgar for the environment that they were in. When asked to turn it down, the instructor refused to lower the volume as well as change the type of music that was playing. The instructor stated that he would not be changing something just for a single student. How much of an ass was this guy?

Not only was the music issue ignored and got worse, instead of learning how to do hair and the other curriculum; skin care, make up, barbering, aromatherapy, nail artistry, sales, and marketing, the instructor decides to teach a dance instead. Sorry, is that what the tuition is going towards? Hell if I wanted to take dance lessons I’d go to a dance instructor, NOT a cosmetologist. If I wanted to listen to music at ear bleeding volumes, I’d go elsewhere.

How many of you have to have it quiet to study? How many of you have to have music playing? If you listen to music while studying, do you have it at ear bleeding volumes? You would think music that loud is distracting to say the least. What are you going to do if you’ve got a client in that chair and the bass booms and it scares you resulting in an unwanted chunk of hair being cut? Then what are you going to do? You can’t glue that hair back on!

When it was brought to the other faculty members and even the individual in charge of The Academy Waukesha, Paul Mitchell Partner School they informed her that they were not going to change anything for her. She was told to deal with it. She was made fun of soon after the issue started and she had said something about it. Really? You’re going to make fun of a student and tell them they have to deal with it instead of assisting them? That is highly unacceptable and I cannot believe any school would do that. What happened to assisting students and helping them along their career path?

Sorry, if you want to be that much of an inconsiderate ass then that’s money you’re losing out on because that shows me that you’re only interested in the tuition money you’re getting from that student. The curriculum doesn’t state anywhere that you’ll learn to dance and listening to high level music. The learning process, “should be fun and everyone’s education should be special.” So that means they can treat a student like crap when they state they have an issue with the class? That’s acceptable?

“When you tour any Paul Mitchell School, everywhere you go you’ll experience a positive learning environment…” Really? They should include how the faculty is disrespectful to students. They even have a teacher training program. That’s awesome! Now how about adding in a courtesy course in there? “Everyone on staff at each beauty school is committed to helping you every step of the way, no matter where your dreams may take you.” Put your money where your mouth is Paul Mitchell. It says a lot when your instructors tell the student to deal with something that is bothering them and hindering their ability to learn and further their career.

Paul Mitchell school of cosmetology, are you interested in the money you’re getting paid from tuition or are you actually interested in helping students further themselves and their dreams? I hope you can clean up your act. You are turning away students when the faculty is that disrespectful and ignorant. The information on your website, pamplets, etc. is false. You aren’t all about the student. If you were, you would assist them in their learning experience like you state on your website. Instead you and your faculty are doing the opposite.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend your school to anyone that is looking to peruse a career in cosmetology. I would tell them to look elsewhere and not give your school a second thought. If you and your faculty can’t be respectful to students then why would I want to attend? I wouldn’t. Maybe your instructors need to go back and take some curtsy classes and clean up their act and learn what they are suppose to be teaching instead of what they don’t have in the planner. You’re there to teach students how to do hair, make up, facials, etc. NOT dances!
